The runestone in the church

Runstenen

In the church porch of Hästveda church, lined up against the wall, is one of Hästveda’s strangest possessions stored, namely a runestone of a brownish sandstone, which formed the gable of a Roman coffin. The stone’s height is about 69 cm and the width is 59 cm. It is from the 13th century and therefore wears a christian inscription: “Into your hands, Lord, I commit your spirit, Åse”. This is a saying of Jesus in Lukas 23:46 with the change that the runemaster wrote your instead of my, the second to last word.

The nordic futhark - Normal runes
two variants of the 16-character rune row, danish and swedish-norwegian runes.
